UK National Trust Flag Controversy

#Politics

The National Trust removed a Union flag from the 70ft tall Penshaw Monument in Sunderland, a Grade I-listed historic monument. The removal was criticized by some as a 'disgrace' and an attack on patriotism.

Telegraph headline feels inflammatory - there's no tearing, just careful removal of a flag from a grade 1 listed historic monument that belongs to the nation.

The Telegraph has ceased to be a newspaper. It is an activist rag backing weird and wacky causes. There was a time it would have believed in respecting property, especially when part of heritage. It is a rag.

Telegraph headline this morning: ‘National Trust branded a ‘disgrace’ for tearing down flag.’ What is disgraceful about protecting the nation’s monuments from harm? They belong to past, current and future generations. The are protected from alteration and damage by law.

Also. FAO Daily Telegraph this is the Penshaw Monument not the Pembroke Monument. Penshaw is in the North East of England and Pembroke is in West Wales - they’re about 350 miles apart, which is a long way in these isles.
